What is a Live Photo?

A Live Photo is an iPhone feature that captures 1.5 seconds of motion and sound before and after you tap the shutter. The result is a short clip paired with a high-resolution still frame, saved as a single .HEIC file.

Live Photos are great for capturing moments with movement — a child laughing, waves crashing, a candle being blown out. But when you need to share outside the Apple ecosystem, most platforms don't know what to do with a Live Photo file.

How to convert

  1. Transfer the file to your computer. AirDrop, iCloud, email, or cable to get the .HEIC file onto any device with a browser.
  2. Drop the file into the converter above. You can convert multiple Live Photos at once.
  3. Pick your format. JPG for sharing and small files. PNG for lossless detail.
  4. Click Convert and download. Conversion happens in your browser — your photos are never uploaded.

Why convert instead of screenshotting?

A screenshot captures your screen resolution with UI elements baked in. Converting the .HEIC file directly extracts the original still frame at full sensor resolution (12MP–48MP). No cropping, no resolution loss, no status bar.

FAQ

Does converting remove the video part?

Yes. The converter extracts only the still frame. To keep the video, export it from Photos app (Share → Save as Video).

Can I convert directly from my iPhone?

Yes. Open this page in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone, tap Choose Photos, and select from your camera roll. The conversion happens in your phone's browser.

What's the difference between HEIC and Live Photo?

HEIC is the file format. A Live Photo stores a still image and short video inside a single HEIC container. All Live Photos are HEIC, but not all HEIC files are Live Photos.

Is the quality the same?

The still frame is extracted at full resolution. JPG applies slight compression (default 92%). For lossless output, choose PNG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. All conversion happens locally via WebAssembly. You can verify by disconnecting from the internet — the converter still works.
